It is an important book, but its organization is not very systematic. On page 104, while talking about the appropriateness of gratitude, Solomon writes “even if there is no one or nothing in particular to whom that gratitude is directed”, but I cannot see any convincing reason why an atheist/skeptic should cultivate a sense of gratitude.
